Thairoom Grand Restaurant

Environmental Graphic / Mural Art

Oct 2024

Client: Thairoom Grand
Collaboration: RevelHouse
Project: A 21’ x 7’ environmental graphic to establish the conceptual direction and colour palette for a newly renovated Pickering restaurant location.

For Thairoom Grand, a restaurant brand guided by authenticity, the challenge was to create a unique and memorable interior that avoided common Thai-inspired motifs. The design process began by establishing a core concept that was both serene and deeply rooted in Thailand's natural beauty.

The Concept
The chosen concept was "Lotus Pond Serenity" , inspired by the magnificent "Sea of Red Lotuses" (Nong Han Kumphawapi Lake). This unique, shallow lake is transformed into a romantic dreamlike lake when thousands of lotus flowers bloom across its surface. This powerful imagery became the foundation for the restaurant's atmosphere and aesthetic.

The Result
The concept was brought to life through a large-scale feature mural. We initially thought to create a stylized, linear art of lotus plants under water. This idea was evolved by introducing a modern, cubist-inspired style, breaking down the organic forms of lotus flowers and pads into geometric facets. This approach offers a contemporary interpretation of the tranquil pond theme.

The final artwork serves as the restaurant's main focal point, establishing a distinct visual theme. The colour palette which derived from the mural, featuring a serene mix of deep greens and mystical purples alongside warm shades of pink and peach, was applied throughout the interior space. The result is a cohesive and immersive dining environment that grounds the guest experience in a unique story of natural tranquility.
